LPGA names Golf Channel anchor Kraig Kann as Chief Communications Officer
Longtime Golf Channel personality brings more than 25 years of media experience to the LPGA

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida, Aug. 18, 2011 – LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan today announced that Kraig Kann, one of Golf Channel’s original on-air personalities, will become the LPGA Chief Communications Officer beginning August 29, 2011.

“Kraig is a passionate, people-oriented leader who will bring both expertise and energy to the LPGA,” Commissioner Whan said. “From the first time I met Kraig, I knew he could help us. I liked his ability to listen, his willingness to try new ideas, and most importantly, his personal passion for the LPGA and our quest to increase the media exposure for the best female golfers in the world.”

Kann, who will report directly to Whan and be part of the LPGA’s Executive Leadership Team, is charged with leading the LPGA’s Public Relations and Communications efforts, to include individual tournament support, national and local media interaction, and enhancing fan awareness and knowledge of the LPGA top performers.

“As one of Golf Channel’s original, pioneering personalities, Kraig was an instrumental part of building a brand, showcasing the best golfing talent in the world, and helping to create a long-term relationship with avid golf fans. His experience is a perfect fit, because that is exactly what we are doing at the LPGA,” Whan said.

“I really believe that everything is about timing and opportunity. Back in 1994 I had no idea I’d have the chance to be a part of launching a special network like Golf Channel. It’s given me a great platform to grow and provided me with more great experiences and relationships than I could have imagined. I was truly fortunate,” said Kann about his transition from Golf Channel to the LPGA. “The timing of this opportunity is equally unique. Like Golf Channel years ago, joining Mike Whan and the dedicated team at the LPGA gives me a chance to be a big part of a professional sports league that’s clearly headed for big things. I’m really excited to help carry on the LPGA’s momentum and build something special.”

For the last 16 years, Kann has hosted virtually every show on Golf Channel including Golf Central, Grey Goose 19th Hole and the network’s “Live From” coverage at major championships. He has also moderated live talk shows and instructional shows as well as serving as Golf Channel’s lead play-by-play voice from 2001-2003. In March 2010, Kann founded HTK Media, a consulting and media training company that shares real media experience to help frame messages, sharpen interviews, energize audiences and grow the brands of corporations, individuals, athletic teams and athletes.

“I look at this as a huge challenge,” Kann continued. “This isn’t about making a career change – it’s about making a difference. I’ve been communicating in a media role for years. This is about helping to grow the LPGA’s communication efforts and helping the players to become even better in their role as ambassadors of their own league and their own brand. I can’t wait to share my experiences and help shape the vision for the LPGA and its great players.”

Kann’s direct reports will include Mike Scanlan, who will now manage media centers and media relations for all LPGA tournaments as Director of Media Communications. In addition, Kann’s team will include former LPGA player Heather Daly-Donofr
