Solheim Cup teams

A look at the United States and European Solheim Cup teams. The United States team was finalized last week. The European team was finalized on Monday for the Sept. 20-23 event at Killeen Castle, Ireland:

Team United States

  • Paula Creamer: Creamer, 25, is 3-0 in Singles competition at the Solheim Cup and has lost only twice in 14 matches. She was a rookie on the Solheim Cup Team in 2005 at age 19.
  • Vicky Hurst: The 21-year-old Solheim Cup rookie and captain’s pick earned Captain Rosie Jones’ attention with a final-round 67 in last week’s Safeway Classic to finish T5, her best finish since a second at the 2010 LPGA Hanna Bank Championship. Hurst is ninth in Driving Distance on the LPGA Tour (262.2-yard average).
  • Juli Inkster: At age 51 years and 13 weeks, Inkster is the oldest player, male or female, to represent the U.S. in team competition. Raymond Floyd was 51 years and 20 days when he played on the 1989 Ryder Cup team. Inkster finished T24 at last week’s Safeway Classic after missing her previous three cuts at the U.S. Women’s Open, Evian Masters and Ricoh Women’s British Open. Inkster will be the first playing assistant in Solheim Cup history.
  • Cristie Kerr: The 33-year-old Kerr, the leading points earner for the United States, is second in putting, scoring average and top-10 finishes in 2011. The five-time Solheim Cup participant has a 9-10-2 record.
  • Christina Kim: Even though Kim, 27, has struggled this year, with only two top-20 finishes, she has been an inspiration to the team in two previous Solheim Cup appearances, compiling a 5-2-1 record that includes a 2-0 Singles mark.
  • Brittany Lang: Much like her drive to qualify for the Solheim Cup in 2009, Lang, 26, surged late this season, with a runner-up finish at the Ricoh Women’s British and a sixth at the Safeway Classic. She is tied for 10th in Driving Distance (261.7).
