Former major league general manager Joe McIlvaine was hired as a special assistant to Seattle Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik on Monday. The Mariners announced the move in Seattle, shortly after beating the Cleveland Indians 12-6 in a game shortened to seven innings by rain. The 64-year-old McIlvaine served as general manager of the San Diego Padres and New York Mets during the 1990s.
