Marine Corps Lance Corporal Tim Lang (Ret.) is a special guest of U.S. Solheim Cup Captain Rosie Jones and will play a fun role at this year’s event. Lang, dressed in full Marine uniform, led Jones and Team USA into the Opening Ceremony. Lang will then serve as Assistant Captain Sherri Steinhauer’s golf cart driver during all of the matches.

More about Tim Lang
Marine Corps Lance Corporal Tim Lang (Ret.) is a native of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Tim was active in sports, an outstanding athlete and quarterback of his high school football team. After graduating from high school in 2003 he attended Jackson Community College and in 2005 joined the Marine Corps. Tim was the turret gunner on a Humvee patrolling in Fallujah, Iraq in October, 2006, when his vehicle was hit by a roadside IED. Two of his comrades were killed in the blast and several others seriously wounded. Tim’s right leg was shattered. After more than twenty-eight surgeries, doctors were unable to save his leg and eventually it was amputated below the right knee. Exemplifying the true Marine spirit, Tim has taken his loss as a challenge and has excelled at numerous sports. In 2010 Tim was selected to participate in the inaugural Warrior Games in Colorado Springs, where he participated in wheelchair basketball. In addition, Tim has received Scuba Diving International’s Advanced Open Water Certification through the Soldiers Undertaking Disabled Scuba organization at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Among his more favorite pastimes is golf, thanks to the Salute Military Golf Association program at Olney Golf Park. Through the SMGA program, Tim has become an accomplished golfer. After several years at Walter Reed, Tim returned home to Michigan and is pursuing his degree at Eastern Michigan University.
